| Varadero |
Varadero is quite touristic, although it did not seem high season at that time. Most tourists were cubans themselves. In Varadero you can only pay by US$'s, so despite socialism there are quite some wealthier cubans. What we liked very much about socialism in Varadero, was that the beach was not divided into private-hotel districts. You can walk along the whole beach for about 3 km. |

Casa particular's are officially forbidden in Varadero, but we did not have difficulties finding one: 25$ per night, more expensive than most other casas in Cuba, but definately nicer and cheaper than the hotels (owned by the state) |
